Edie

A member of the Steiner Community.

Biography

S1E1 - Grows agitated when she is held up in line by Midge at Lutzi’s Meats & Poultry.

S2E4 - In the Steiner salon, Edie shares some gossip about Saul with Rose and Midge.

S2E4 - Rose overhears Ida gossipping with Edie in the salon, leading her to believe that Midge would be a good match for Benjamin.

S4E3 - Midge, Abe, Rose, Moishe, Shirley, Joel and Susie attend the Broadway premiere of “They Came, They Danced” at the Mark Hellinger Theatre. After the show, the Maisels and Weissmans attend an invite-only after-party in the theatre lobby, along with many of their fellow Steinerites. Pauly and Abe reminisce about how far they've come with Buzz, and Midge has an uncomfortable conversation with Edie, who insists on reminding her how terrible she was when she did the stow at Steiner in '53.

S4E3 - The Maisels and Weissmans attend Akiva Bergman's bar mitzvah. Also in attendance are Pauly (with his wife), Stevie (with her husband and children) and Edie (with her sister). During the penultimate aliyah man's performance, the family begins to pick up on a hostile air directed towards them. Eventually, the tension boils over and Abe learns that they are angry at him for trashing Buzz's play in the Village Voice. Pauly, Stevie, Edie, the Rabbi, and an older woman seated behind them all go in particularly hard on Abe. Eventually, he agrees to leave so that the proceedings can continue, but not before warning them that his honesty will continue.

Quotes & Dialogue

EDIE: Excuse me! I'm in the middle of an order here!
MIDGE: I'm so sorry, what were you getting?
EDIE: Pork chops.
MIDGE: Put her porkchops on my tab. Oh, I can't believe it. The Rabbi's been mad at us since the wedding. It only took four years of apologies and a dreidel signed by Sammy Davis Jr., but we finally got the bastard, but we finally got the bastard!
EDIE: Disgraceful!
MIDGE: You like your free pork chops? Zip it, then!
– S1E1
EDIE: You know, he hypnotized her at the mesmerism show last year, and to this day, she still clucks like a chicken when you clap your hands.
ROSE: No.
EDIE: All that clucking at orientation, that was Lottie Friedman.
MIDGE: I'll give her this, she clucks on the beat.
EDIE: Oh, you see Saul over there?
ROSE: Oh, dear.
EDIE: You know, his wife died.
ROSE: Yes, a tragedy.
EDIE: Well, she's not dead three months when he turns around and marries her kid sister.
MIDGE: Joanie?
EDIE: But the man is still on the prowl; look at him. At the “End of Summer” soirée last year, he danced with Leah Bernstein. And when he pressed up against her, she could feel his excitement.
MIDGE: Oh, kind of wishing you hadn't said that.
ROSE: It may have been a pocketknife.
EDIE: (chuckles): Yes, a pocketknife! Well, I'll see you two tonight. My God, you look like sisters.
– S2E4
IDA: They never found the body.
EDIE: They did too find Glenn Miller's body.
IDA: No!
EDIE: Yeah! He was still holding his trombone. Such a dedicated musician.
IDA: Did you see that Tony Curtis said that kissing Marilyn Monroe was like kissing Hitler?
EDIE: Kissing Hitler? How would Tony Curtis know what kissing Hitler was like?
IDA: I don't know. He said it, not me.
EDIE: He had such thin lips.
IDA: Tony Curtis?
EDIE: Adolf Hitler. His lips were almost nonexistent.
IDA: Maybe that's why he was so angry, do you think?
EDIE: I don't like thinking about that man; he was awful.
IDA: Speaking of awful, did you see Gladys has a hair appointment on Tuesday? But her husband's a weekender. He won't be here till Friday.
EDIE: Oh? Who's she getting all dolled up for if not for him?
IDA: She's been playing an awful lot of tennis lately.
EDIE: The tennis pro?
IDA: You said it, not me.
EDIE: I'm getting tired of people hopping around from bed to bed. Tony Curtis, Gladys Lipschitz. Stay in one place. It's exhausting.
IDA: Oh, please. If my son would just stay with a girl for more than two dates, I'd plotz.
EDIE: Benjamin?
IDA: No one is good enough for him. Lovely girls from good families. They cook. They're sweet as pie. They don't laugh too loud or talk too loud. “They're too normal,” he says. “They're boring.”
EDIE: Boring? What's that?
IDA: All my friends have grandchildren, and here I am with nothing on the horizon. And he's such a catch. A doctor, handsome.
EDIE: He's so handsome.
IDA: But he says he wants someone interesting, someone unique… get this, someone weird.
– S2E4
EDIE: Miriam Maisel! Look at you, all dolled up.
MIDGE: Hello, Edie. Good to see you.
EDIE: I was just talking to someone - you were the star of this show one year, weren't you? Up at Steiner?
MIDGE: Clare Landsburg, summer of '53, at your service.
EDIE: Then you got dumped, right?
MIDGE: No, Edie, I wasn't dumped…
EDIE: Fired, whatever you want to call it.
MIDGE: It was just a fun vacation thing I did one year. That's all. I'm not an actress.
EDIE: Oh, you don't have to tell me, I was there!
– S4E3
EDIE: Your husband killed his show. Wrote horrible things about it in that farkakte paper of his. It was the boy's life's work!
– S4E3
EDIE: You ruined the show, and now you've ruined poor Akiva's bar mitzvah.
– S4E3
