Real person. Journalist, activist.

S1E4 - Jane holds a rally to protest Robert Moses’ plans to run a road through a park in Greenwich Village. Midge winds up taking the podium at the rally.

S2E7 - Jane is drinking at the Cedar Tavern when Midge comes in on a date with Benjamin. Midge goes up and reminds Jane who she is. Later, when Declan Howell does a drunken soliloquy atop the bar, Jane watches.

S5E8 - Gordon Ford excitedly informs his staff that, with Hedy’s help, they have managed to book Princess Margaret for the full hour on their show tonight. He rallies the staff to make this the historic occasion that it deserves to be, then goes over to Jane Jacobs and diplomatically tells her that she’s been bumped.

JANE: This battle is our battle, the people of Greenwich Village. The ones who understand that cities are made up of more than buildings and roads. People make up a city.
– S1E4

JANE: It's your park, it's your city. You should tell your stories. Anyone who wishes to speak, come up and speak. Just do it loud enough that Robert Moses can hear you over his bulldozers.
– S1E4

MIDGE: Jane Jacobs, remember me?
JANE: No.
MIDGE: Washington Square Park. You were protesting. I got up and, “Women will fix it and accessorize it!”
JANE: Upper West Side. How you doing, West Side?
MIDGE: I'm good. I'm on a date with a doctor.
JANE: You should come rally the troops with me again.
MIDGE: I'll be there.
JANE: That girl's nuts.
– S2E7

GORDON: And now my morning just got even better. Jane Jacobs, what an absolute thrill to meet you.
JANE: Hello, Gordon.
GORDON: Guys, this is the woman who single-handedly stopped Robert Moses from running a goddamn road through the middle of Washington Square Park. Jane, my first time in New York, my parents took me to that park. My God, there were jugglers, musicians, that fountain, a bunch of weirdos, it was magical. I knew then I had to live here, work here. Jane, you didn't just save a park, you saved a memory. Thank you.
JANE: You're welcome.
GORDON: Gotta bump you tonight. I'll call you when we got a hole to fill. Let's do this, Mike.
JANE: Okay…
