SHIRLEY: Oh, I totally forgot. Joely, this is Lena Brofmann from up the street. She's a teacher at P.S. 144. Say hi.
JOEL: Hi, Lena.
LENA: Hi, Joel.
SHIRLEY: Sweetie, what do you teach again?
LENA: Music. Harmony and composition. And I'm a classical flautist.

JOEL: You okay?
LENA: Just someone saying, “Hi, let me out.”
– S4E2

SHIRLEY: What? She's a pretty girl, a talented musician. I wonder if she brought her flout.
JOEL: She's pregnant.
SHIRLEY: Just a little.
JOEL: That kid is almost walking.

JOEL: So… How do you like teaching?
LENA: I love it. Because I love kids.
– S4E2

SHIRLEY: There was a perfectly good girl I set him up with last week. Lena Brofmann. It was a boy, by the way.
MIDGE: Wow. You work quick.
JOEL: Excuse me, Ma, for not wanting to go out with a pregnant divorced woman.
SHIRLEY: She's not divorced. Her husband died.
