Band Leader

Band leader on The Gordon Ford Show.

Biography

S5E2 - On Midge’s first day, Gordon goes right down to the wire on getting the monologue locked, brushing right past the writers as Maury gives instructions to the audience and taking the microphone from him, greeting the audience briefly, and only then turning around to talk to the writers. Just moments later, the Band Leader does the introduction and the show begins.

S5E3 - The night that Midge finally gets a joke in, the show begins as the band leader lists the guests and introduces Gordon. The monologue goes well, until he stumbles on “Elmer Fudd” while reading Midge's joke, prompting a loud exclamation from her which causes Gordon, Mike, George, and the writers to look at her disapprovingly.

S5E4 - Lacking any replacement for his missing guest, Gordon reluctantly hosts Hart Buckley from the Zoo for a third segment, this one with Cooper the sloth. Maury, Teddy, George and the Band Leader all stand at their posts, and Mike makes his way back in from outside. Just as the segment begins, however, Sophie Lennon appears by the band, surprising Gordon and the audience. Realizing that this was Mike’s doing, George gives him a dirty look for showing him up. Elated, Gordon beckons Sophie over to the couch and sits them next to Hart and Cooper, who he rudely ignores for the rest of the interview. Before Mike can truly savor his moment of triumph, Sophie bursts in and confronts him about Gordon’s rule that nobody who works on the show can be on the show. Mike refuses to help, and Susie leaves, frustrated.

S5E7 - The band leader leads the band through the stringer to return for Danny Stevens’ intro as Midge speaks with Moishe and Shirley, who she invited to come watch.

S5E8 - The band leader performs a special faux-British intro for the episode featuring Princess Margaret for the full hour.

S5E9 - The band leader introduces a show featuring Alan Shepard, Carol Burnett, and a special “interview with a writer” segment designed to humiliate Midge, who had been led to believe she would be doing standup. The band leader performs the appropriate musical transition cues as the show unfolds, and watches as Gordon’s attempt to humiliate Midge backfires and she hijacks the show with a very successful standup set. During the set, Midge has a brief gestural interaction with the band leader, turning to him for playful mock approval during a joke about keeping her set clean, to which he responds by nodding playful mock approval.
