Trivia

  • The Gaslight Cafe, once located at 116 MacDougal Street in NYC, was actually a coffeehouse in Manhattan's legendary Greenwich Village. Also known as The Village Gaslight, it opened in 1958 and was a famous club featuring musical acts, especially folk music. It closed in 1971. (Source: IMDb)
  • The exterior and stairwell of the Gaslight were filmed at Under St. Marks Theatre on St. Marks just off 1st Ave, which is the site of a real open mic that happens every Tuesday from 9pm to 2am. (Source: IMDb)
  • According to Joel Johnstone in Episode 3 of My Mrs. Maisel Pod, the Gaslight interior scenes in the pilot were shot in an actual New York venue (possibly in the real spot? He was a little vague) where he had previously done some theater. Subsequent scenes were shot on a set, which perfectly recreated the real place.
  • The Gaslight Café also appears in the movie Inside Llewyn Davis (2013). In the film, the manager of the café is played by Max Casella, who would later play Michael Kessler in Maisel.
